Amateur Radio Readiness Exercise
Saturday, April 12, 2008
9am - 11am, Central Time
www.arcdallasradio.net will be updated as more information becomes available (last updated 3/6/08).
The Southwest Service Area (Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas) will sponsor an Amateur Radio Readiness Exercise
on Saturday, April 12. The goal is to introduce Red Cross chapters to the disaster communication capabilities of their local
amateur radio operators, and to reacquaint local Hams with Red Cross volunteer opportunities as communicators and in other disaster
response activities.
Details regarding the exact format will be available on this web site closer to the event. Generally, it will provide for net
check-in and passing of simple DRO-themed messages or general announcements (e.g. Chapter self-promotion, supporting radio club
information). Depending on the volume of traffic, Net Control may vary procedures on the fly (e.g. permit announcements at the time
of check-in, or hold all messages and traffic until after check-ins). Off frequency direct contact between chapters will be
encouraged. Chapters outside the SW Service Area are encouraged to check-in.

· HF LSB 7.280 MHz (if occupied work down in 5 KHz steps to 7.230MHz, remain in General Class phone allocation)
o The traffic net on 7.290 MHz will not be available to pass traffic for this exercise.
· HF USB 14.253 MHz (if occupied work down in 5 KHz steps to 14.233, remain in General Class phone allocation)
Net Control will be located at Dallas Area Chapter. This year's event will be conducted on HF phone only.
Messages other than simple check-ins and announcements should use the ARRL Radiogram format. They should be brief and to the
point. Include the name of the originating chapter and its location. Please be alert for the need to relay if propagation
requires.
The planned frequencies may change as the event approaches, so check back. If a planned frequency is in use, check the vicinity or
try the other band.
