I can only hope that I won't be offending anyone with this e-mail but I want to see the views of everyone else in the ham radio community on kyham.
I went to the Cave City Hamfest and I must say while the attendance was great and it was packed I was very disappointed in the amount of CB equipment (Radios, Illegal Amplifiers, So On....) inside and outside.
I don't believe there was one tailgater that was actually there to sell Ham Radio Equipment. All of the tailgaters off the top of my head were there to sell CB equipment w/ one gentleman selling modified 10 Meter Equipment to work on 11 Meters.
Seeing our hobby going to shame like this made my stomach just churn giving me a sick feeling over the whole ordeal.
While I know that if these people doesn't come with their CB equipment to these events it makes the event smaller and I know that is bad for the ham radio club in itself revenue wise. However, I do feel that the committee overseeing this and any ham fest should do a little better job to make sure that what these people are selling isn't doing it in an illegal fashion.
I'm not picking on Cave City but just using it as an example that the ham fests are slowly dying (we all know why) but don't make it worse by allowing nothing but CB'ers that are coming in and taking over the ham fests we all come to enjoy.
I'm pretty sure there was more CB equipment there than actual ham radio equipment.
Once again, sorry if I offended anyone including the committee that oversees Cave City or any other hamfest.
Thank You,
John Betner
