To all Kentucky ARES Appointees:
If you are a District Emergency Coordinator (DEC), Emergency Coordinator
(EC), or Official Emergency Station (OES) you are familiar with the requirements
of the position as outlined on the ARRL web site. One of these requirements
is reporting.
Reporting is important on three fronts. Within the ARES organization, to the
FCC and the general public through media reports it serves as the documented
foundation of amateur radio’s contribution to the community. It shows both
activity and provides an avenue for recognition for operators who go above
and beyond
Many years ago, reporting was an arduous task that required filling out a
sheet, affixing a stamp, and mailing it to “the next level” coordinator. Not
any more. For the last 8 years, reports in Kentucky have been Internet
based electronic forms that take minutes to complete and are transmitted
automatically to the KY SEC.
Changes are coming to the Kentucky ARES Reports. For the past several years,
all ARES reports submitted online have been transmitted directly to the DEC
for data collection reasons. Effective with the October report cycle, we
will return to EC reports being transmitted to their DEC for inclusion in their
district report. We feel this change will increase DEC awareness and
documentation of local activity. EC reports from districts without DECs will
continue to be transmitted to the SEC.
Again, reports are important and a requirement of ARES leadership appointee
positions. In the near future, this requirement will be more tightly
observed. These requirements will be discussed with KY ARES Leadership appointees
directly. If you have any questions, please email me at w2ltb at arrl.net.
