At 11:30 AM Lou NWS held a conference call with emergency managers to
discuss this evening's weather situation.
In Short:
Expect winds up to as high as 40 MPH today even without any storms. This
coupled with a 120 MPH jet stream currently right over our heads will create
the best chances we have had for severe weather in a long time. Should the
sun come out this afternoon and warm temps to around 80 degrees and the
expected high dew points, the atmosphere will be very unstable and ripe for
severe weather to develop.
Watches may be issued over the next couple of hours by the SPC. This
afternoon we may see rapid development of isolated supercell storms at any
location. All counties west of a line from Louisville to Bowling Green have
the best chances of tornado development in any storm. Later this evening
they expect the storms to form up into a squall line and move eastward.
Severe weather window for this event is from 9 PM - 3 AM.
Monitor NOAA weather radio and media for weather info as we go through the
next 18 hrs. Be ready to act should a tornado threaten were you are. Other
storm risks associated with any storm today or tonight will be cloud to
ground lightening, large hail and damaging straight line winds. Micro bursts
are possible in stronger storms and supercells.
