Ronald E. “PETE” Collins KC4ZSW - 1924-2007

Ronald E. “PETE” Collins, 83, of Russell, Ky., died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007.

He was born Sept. 29, 1924, in Kilgore, Ky., a son of the late Edward Everett and Selva Savage Collins.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel Lee Collins, and brothers Gail Collins and Larry Collins.

He was a boilermaker with C&O, CSX. He was a member of Mead Memorial United Methodist Church in Russell, Smith Lodge 775, F&AM, Mistletoe Chapter 144, Order of Eastern Star, the Raceland Lions Club, the River Cities Amateur Radio Club and the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers & Helpers Lodge 157. He was a former Russell city councilman and Russell volunteer fireman.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Lee Smith Collins of Russell; a son, David D. (Mary Beth) Collins of Vanceburg, Ky.; a sister, Juanita (Charles “Hop”) Brown of Raceland, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Rose Collins of Russell; and grandchildren Lori Collins of Ashland, Ky., Tyler White of Lawrenceburg, Ky., Stefanie Collins of Vanceburg and Cory Collins of Vanceburg.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Carman Funeral Home in Russell by Pastor Raymond Payne. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
